Company in an interior, Bartholomeus van Bassen, 1622 - 1624 oil on panel, h 71cm × w 101.2cm.
Van Bassen painted the interior, his colleague Van de Velde the figures. They show us a chic company in a fashionable home, with paintings on the walls, decorated cupboards, a monumental fireplace and an artful wooden coffered ceiling. The decorations are inspired by designs by the architect Hans Vredeman de Vries. This interior never existed - it is an ideal.
