Colourful wooden rowing boats – an artistic panorama

by TheXclusive Art

This colourful wooden rowing boats artistic panorama painting depicts three old rowing boats lying side by side in the water, seen from above. On the left is a boat in weathered turquoise; in the centre, one in warm ochre and yellow; and on the right, a boat in pink and purple. Around them, hundreds of coloured petals float on the dark water’s surface.

The paint on the wood tells the story. It is flaking off everywhere, allowing the underlying wood to show through and revealing layers of earlier colours. The planks are rough and cracked, the cross-benches are loose in the hull, and there is a thin layer of water at the bottom of each boat. It is precisely this weathering that enriches the image, for not a single surface is smooth or new. The floating petals in pink, yellow and red provide a soft counterpoint to all that weathered wood. Turquoise alongside ochre alongside pink might sound like too much, but thanks to the muted, worn-out shades, the overall effect remains harmonious and suits a living room just as well as a kitchen or a bathroom.

Boats like these can still be seen moored in fishing villages around the Mediterranean, where they have sometimes been in use for generations. The fact that they’ve been captured from above like this suddenly turns three working boats into a composition.
