It was a former artillery depot of the States of Holland and West Friesland. The oldest part dates from the period 1601-1602. Extensions were added in 1660 and around 1692. In 1802, after the Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie went bankrupt, a VOC warehouse was added to the Armamentarium.
