This picture was taken in Zeeland.
As a working island, Neeltje Jans is part of the Oosterscheldekering.
Neeltje Jans is about 285 hectares and is located halfway between Schouwen and Noord-Beveland on the Oosterscheldekering.
Neeltje Jans used to be a sandbar in the mouth of the Oosterschelde estuary.
Raising the sandbar created the working island, which was used at the time the storm surge barrier was built.
The name Neeltje Jans is the name of the boat that ran aground on the sandbank; it is an old folk name for the patron goddess Nehalennia.
