About the artwork

One of the flowers that proves to me that spring has really started is the anemone. A flower from the ranunculus family, and it shows when you put both flowers side by side.

I love ranunculus, but even more so anemones. Tiny flowers with single leaves. They exist in red and blue. But my favourite are the delicate light-coloured anemones. White with some pink, yellow or light blue. Like this anemone with delicate pink-white bracts. The heart of the flower is another story. A solid bulb full of pistils and beautiful stamens around it. Not at all delicate or soft. Rather tough or firm. As here just visible in the dark blue on the right. The heart is a contrast to the bracts and it is this contrast that makes it such a beautiful flower.

The story goes that the anemone was named after a Greek nymph Anemona, who lived in the court of goddess Flora. Or that the name comes from the name Adonis from whose blood flowers grew. Whatever the reality, for me it is above all a beautiful light spring flower. One of the most beautiful I know.
