The end point of a short fence of posts with barbed wire on Wassenaar beach. My eye catches the last post. Against that post is an angled pole, for strength. The two posts are tied together with a thick rope web of beaten rope. A beautiful rope, made up of two adjacent ropes each time. A strong rope.
The roughness of the poles and the sturdy rope rope fit well together. A powerful image of connection, loyalty and holding. An almost comforting image full of eternal peace. You see immediately, this will stand firm. For a very long time to come.
To emphasise this image, I took the photo at close range and the sea in the background is deliberately blurred. Even the rope at the back of the pole is already out of focus. It results in a strong image without other poles, barbed wire, beach grass or other distracting subjects that would disturb the image. And in black and white, because it is not important for the image what colour the rope was. It is precisely in the black and grey tones that the strength of this picture lies.
