This modern and softly coloured artwork full of circles and circle patterns has something magical about it, as if you are hypnotised by the patterns, shapes and lines you see. There are circle patterns to be seen but you also see the illusion of a larger circle connecting all the circle patterns.
There is a nice interplay of two main colours: green and brown. Natural colours that complement but also contrast nicely with each other. The circle patterns show small pieces of the colours, small pieces that are separate yet also belong together.
This particular artwork is a composition of three, home-made, photographs. The colours of the circle patterns are formed by a photo of a piece of stone and one of a collection of broken glass.
Stone and glass, both hard materials. This forms a nice contrast to the round shapes of the circles. The soft round shapes are further enhanced by the pastel-coloured background with a multitude of bokeh spheres on top.
Circles and circle patterns often represent the circle of life. So do these circles. The different circle patterns can symbolise different events in your life. The curves of the circles symbolise the fun events and the hard materials used for the colours symbolise the less fun things in life. All the circles are eventually connected by a larger circle that symbolises all of life.
I see making art as a creative process.
The starting point of this process for me is always a photo or a painting of my own. Every work of art on this site is therefore based on a self-made photo or painting.
I find my sources of inspiration in everything around me...
