About ‘Chimney against a blue sky’ by Pieter Muller
The contrast between the red roof and the blue sky made me want to take the photo in colour. What’s more, the red is also partly reflected in the wall, which enhances the image.

Photographing in black and white allows me to bring out the subject of a photograph more effectively. My favourite subjects are landscapes, flowers and (old) buildings.
I photograph almost exclusively on black-and-white film. For this, I use a Hasselblad or a large-format (4x5 inch) camera. Despite years of experience, every time I develop a roll of film, it remains exciting to see whether the idea I had when taking the shot has actually been captured on the negative.
