About ‘Tulip in black and white’ by Pieter Muller
A tulip with frayed edges, photographed in black and white on film.
The frayed edges and the shape of the tulip are shown to their best advantage by photographing it from an unusual angle.
The tulip was photographed with a large-format camera in a studio on 6x7-inch black-and-white film.

Photographing in black and white allows me to bring out the subject of a photograph more effectively. My favourite subjects are landscapes, flowers and (old) buildings.
I photograph almost exclusively on black-and-white film. For this, I use a Hasselblad or a large-format (4x5 inch) camera. Despite years of experience, every time I develop a roll of film, it remains exciting to see whether the idea I had when taking the shot has actually been captured on the negative.
