About the artwork

Caryatids (singular: caryatid, also Caryatid) are female statues that are used as pillars or pilasters. Caryatid is a compound Greek word that literally means "woman from Karyae".

In the war of the Greeks against the Persians, the inhabitants of Karyae, called the Karyans, supported the Persians. When the Greeks finally won the war against the Persians, the Karyans were punished for it. The Karyan men were killed and the women enslaved. The women had to carry an 'eternal' burden as punishment.

Here two of these women are standing naked carrying the burden. One woman can be seen from the side, leaving legs, buttocks, back and a tit exposed. In the other girl both breasts and part of the abdomen and hip are exposed.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Limoges, France, 25 February 1841 - Cagnes-sur-Mer, 3 December 1919) was a French impressionist painter. In 1888, Renoir suffered a first attack of rheumatoid arthritis, a form of rheumatism that paralysed his fingers. Despite the pain, he continued to work with a brush tied to his wrist.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
