About the artwork
The picture shows a colourful graffiti of a bird sprayed in vivid tones on the weathered wall of the former sanatorium. The scene is dominated by bars in the foreground, which act as a symbolic border and restrict the bird's freedom. This motif is reminiscent of the history of the sanatorium, which once served as a lung sanatorium for miners and was later used as a military hospital during the Second World War.
Over the years, the building fell into disrepair and was eventually abandoned.
