Sunset on a still Spring evening in April on the North Sea beach of Terschelling. The clouds hang over this scene like an old fashioned canopy. I can't get over the beauty of the Dutch clouds, it is easy to see why the old Dutch masters loved to paint landscapes with eye-catching clouds in the sky. I often choose to make square images and I frame them up like this I camera, rather than photographing and cropping later. The almost horizontal layers on top contrast nicely with the diagonal on the sand and the seagulls on the shoreline are balanced out by the single bird in the sky. The sand was glowing in the light of the setting sun, changing it into a nice warm shade of orange.
