I think I was 15 when I first arrived in Venice. The aqua blue lagoon with the sunken city with stately white, honey yellow and marzipan pink mansions and palazzi made a deep impression on me. Finally, I was face to face with the Mediterranean. A lively city with busy shipping traffic and with singing gondoliers. This morning it was still quiet. There was still little sailing on the Canale Grande. The reflections of houses and mooring posts seem to dance in the water. The sun shines through a friendly layer of summer clouds.
