Calf of Scottish Highlander cow.
The photo was taken at the Lentevreugd nature reserve in Wassenaar in winter.
It was a misty morning and the sun had just risen. The calf was grazing and was also very curious.
Lentevreugd used to be used as a bulb field but is now a protected nature reserve including and herd of Scottish Highlander cows and KonnikPaarden.
The photo was taken with a telephoto lens at an appropriate distance from all the animals.
Although the cows are used to the wanderers, it is never predictable how they would react if you get too close.
The fog that morning gave a special light on the animal, illuminating its fur.
Lentevreugd is an oasis of calm and the calf exudes the same. He is curious but also calm. The branch in his head makes it a playful image, you would almost want to take the branch away from his head
