Royal Theater in Heerlen was a cinema that opened in 1938, and due to the then flourishing mining industry, it expanded in the years 1957-1958 with two theatres: Rivoli and Maxim.
Due to stiff competition with a new cinema just outside Heerlen, attendance declined sharply and in 2014, after 76 years, the doors were closed.
In 2018, through the efforts of a good acquaintance working for the Municipality of Heerlen (which managed it during the vacancy), I was able to take two days off round to take photos's in this beautiful building designed by architect Frits Peutz.
This photo shows the café Royal in the theatre of the same name.
