Bushu, Moon over Ishihama, Taigyu Tower, Inuzaka Shino, by Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)
Wonderful scene from the novel Nanso Satomi, which tells the story of the Eight Dog Warriors. These great samurai were the offspring of a mystical union between Fusehime, the daughter of Lord Anzai of the Satomi clan, and a dog. Here the young warrior Inuzaka Shino, disguised as a woman, stands on the porch of the Taigyu Tower with his sword in hand and one foot on the railing. The interior shows the aftermath of a fight with an overturned table.
Also called Ikkakusai, Hokaku II, Yoshu and as Betsugo. After learning from Kuniyoshi and Toyokuni III, he became a student of Toyohara Kunichika.
