Wind on the ocean creates ripples on the surface of the water. These ripples combine over time and distance to form a wave, also known as a swell. This energy in the form of swell can sometimes travel over the course of days to eventually discharge its energy as a pushed-up column of water somewhere along a coastline at a shallow spot such as a beach. Often seen as a collar of white foam moving slowly towards the beach. The image of the crest of such a wave just before it discharges itself on the surface to then turn inside out remains a unique image.
