'The end of the World' located at the extreme south-western tip of Europe was long seen as the end of the world. This extreme tip of mainland Europe had to be cleared to sail from the ocean, via the Strait of Gibraltar, towards the Mediterranean. Today, it is seen as one of the iconic cliffs along Portugal's busy southern coast.
