The original of this shot was a negative of a 1990 photograph when a ship ran aground on the beach at Scheveningen. On this very stormy day, we watched the tugs trying to bring the ship back to the North Sea.

John Duurkoop (1952) lived on the North Sea coast all his life. The sea, the dunes, the beach and the beautiful cloud formations are often a subject in his photographs. Beach life in all seasons is a source of inspiration for him. John Duurkoop started photographing seriously at the age of 18, inspired by his father, a not undeserving amateur photographer.
