What we see in this work is an idyllic scene from a typical Dutch village. A narrow canal winds its way past old houses with thatched roofs, while a wooden bridge connects the two banks. Two people in a small boat sail quietly under the bridge, enjoying the silence and the clear water. A detail that does not immediately catch the eye, but makes the picture special, is the Dutch flag flying proudly next to the house. It is a subtle but powerful symbol of connection with the place and the country. The shadows of the trees dancing playfully on the water also give the work an extra layer of depth.
The inspiration for this work comes from my fascination with Giethoorn, a village often called the "Venice of the North". While walking along the canals, I was struck by the serene calm: no heavy traffic, just the gentle lapping of water and the creaking of wooden bridges. I wanted to capture that feeling.
The atmosphere I try to capture here is warm and nostalgic. The work radiates tranquillity, freedom and connection with nature. I want to transport the viewer to a place where time seems to stand still.
In an interior, this work brings calmness and a touch of Dutch charm. It evokes memories of summer days and lets you escape for a moment from the hectic pace of everyday life.
