A stranded, dilapidated wooden boat on the beach of the Con Dao archipelago in Vietnam. The once colourfully painted planks are weathered, partly broken and marked by traces of rust and salt water. The hull is only preserved in fragments, the deck is exposed, as if time had slowly stripped the boat of its clothes. In the background, several intact fishing boats lie at anchor on calm waters - a clear contrast between the past and present of the local fishing culture. Con Dao was long an isolated place where traditional wooden boats were part of everyday life. Today, they symbolise a coastal culture in transition: modern materials are replacing old craftsmanship, and what remains is evidence that is being left to nature. Wind, sand and sea are reclaiming the boat piece by piece and integrating it into the landscape. The image is suitable for themes such as maritime decay, coastal culture, sustainable fishing, transience, everyday artefacts or travel photography away from tourist postcard motifs.
