The often invisible giants of the Arctic Ocean. Blue whales are among the largest animals on earth, they can live to be 80 to 90 years old, reach a length of more than 30 meters, weigh as much as 150,000 kilos and their heart is the size of a small car. This whale was photographed during an expedition to Svalbard, Spitsbergen. At the northern curve of the archipelago we came across a group of these whales at the 80th latitude. The spraying of these giants at the surface with the snowy mountains of Spitsbergen in the background formed the beautiful backdrop of a pristine world.
