Beautifully detailed digitally created illustration of a Blue Heron. The digital here concerns the impression of an illustration. The photograph to which this digital technique was applied is indeed a home-made image.
The Blue Heron (Ardea cinerea)
The grey heron is a large, grey bird with a long white-grey neck. It has a black band through the eye, which culminates in a crest, a yellow dagger-shaped bill and tall brown legs. The grey heron belongs to the heron family and is the most familiar and common representative of this family.
How can you recognise the grey heron?

grey to blue-grey upperparts, wings and tail, the primaries are black
white head with black band through eye, ending in extended black plume
long white neck with longitudinal stripes
yellow, dagger-shaped bill (sometimes reddish in breeding season)
long, brown legs

What does the grey heron eat?
The grey heron prefers fish but is by no means fussy. Its menu also includes amphibians (frogs), reptiles (ring snakes), insects, worms, young birds and small mammals (moles, mice, rats). Especially when fish are less available or inaccessible.
Where does the grey heron live?
is widely distributed, ranging from meadows to even in cities, but always near water. Ditches, wet meadows, canals, streams, lakes and coasts are its natural habitat. It searches alertly for food there.
The grey heron breeds in colonies in tall trees and in remote forest or reed beds.
