Between Two Worlds | A Panoramic Portrait of Loss, Comfort and the Cat Who Stays by KRAB

He sits on the left. The cat sits on the right. And she sits between them — exactly where she has always sat. Three silhouettes seen from behind against a layered background of grey, off-white and rust-brown — like a wall that has seen every season. On the left, a dark figure, almost lost in the black, present in a way that only someone who was never there can be. On the right, a black cat, standing upright, unperturbed yet fully engaged. And in the centre, she — her bare back softly illuminated, her head slightly bowed, her hands just out of shot. She is not looking to the left. She is not looking to the right. She is looking at what lies before her.

The digital painting technique is expressive and layered — broad brushstrokes that almost allow the figures to dissolve into the background, as if the boundary between being present and being remembered is thinner here than usual. The palette is both subdued and warm: grey, ivory, black, a hint of rust that grounds the whole.

This panoramic format calls for a large wall above the sofa or above the bed — in a modern, warm minimalist or hotel-chic living room or bedroom that makes room for something greater than mere decoration. A work that two people interpret differently: one sees a child between two friends. The other sees exactly what it is. For those who know what it’s like to sit between two worlds — and yet feel at home somewhere.
