Beside me, the echo.

by Kopffarben

A moment to pause and listen closely, to distinguish one’s own echo from that of others.

What belongs to me, and what echoes within me from the outside? The boundaries between one’s own thoughts and the voices of others become blurred. What only a moment ago seemed like a part of us suddenly feels alien. There are some things we hear so often from the outside that, at some point, we come to regard them as part of our identity. Fragmented body forms in bold red and blue overlap and repeat themselves. Individual body parts can only be partially identified. Black lines outline the figures. The white areas provide a calm counterpoint to the bold colours and hold the figure together.

The original measures 30x40cm; ink and acrylic on paper

In my painting, I explore self-perception and transformation. I am interested in those moments when familiar notions of ourselves are shaken and new possibilities emerge, without it yet being clear where they will lead.
My figures dissolve, change their form and come together again in unexpected ways. Lines and bodily forms make inner movements visible: circling thoughts, uncertainty and the search for one’s own self.
I wish to capture states of transition in which contradictions are allowed to coexist and change does not need a fixed direction. I am interested in what can emerge when we do not have to hold on to everything or explain it immediately.
