Walking through Gran Canaria's volcanic mountains is a wonderful experience for nature lovers. Magnificent vistas through the mountains stand out against blue skies with beautiful white bands of clouds. Canarian pines with their long needles stand like graceful silhouettes in the landscape, providing a nice soft contrast to the harsh reality of the mainly lava stone mountains. Crickets and birds fill the silence of the Canarian space with their songs. The walks go gently up and down through the beautiful fairly sparsely forested plains. Thin so that each tree has enough moisture available on the island with a limited number of rainy days a year.
The drought is evident, but the plants have adapted to this climate over time and endure it just fine. The atmosphere is subtropical with Canary Island pines on the mountains but in lower areas also cacti and agave, sunflower on the sparse soil em groups of palms as higher elements. The landscapes are a delight for lovers of warmer places with a lovely holiday atmosphere.
