A lighthouse, by its very nature, suggests a realm of solitude, but a lighthouse on an islet amplifies this isolation to an almost profound degree.
Such is the essence of the Punta Prima tower, majestically situated on Illa de l'Aire – a slender sliver of land nestled close to Sant Lluís on Menorca's southeast. For many years, this impressive structure, soaring 38 vertical meters, held the distinction of being the tallest lighthouse in the entire Balearic Islands, a title it retains for Menorca today.
Constructed between 1857 and 1860, it casts its illuminating gaze across Menorca's easternmost coastline. Its sole companion in this remote vigil is the pristine beauty of Illa de l'Aire, while its name derives from the Punta Prima housing estate, the nearest human settlement from which to glimpse this enduring sentinel.
The striking black and white striped lighthouse stands sentinel against the soft hues of a fading twilight sky. The tranquil sea gently laps at the shore, reflecting the pastel pinks and purples of dusk. This serene coastal scene evokes a sense of peace and timeless beauty, perfect for adding a calming presence to any space.
