Beach and dunes near Ouddorp by Sander Poppe

On this peaceful evening on the coast of Ouddorp, the landscape seems to have been stripped back to the essence of sea, beach and dunes. From a low dune, you look out over the marram grass, which stretches like a green line towards the horizon. Beyond it lie the wide beach and the North Sea, which slowly fade into the distance beneath a gentle evening sky.

The sun has already disappeared from view, but its influence remains visible in the sky. Shades of pink, orange, blue and purple blend together above the coast, lending the landscape a tranquil atmosphere. A solitary cloud drifts above the sea, whilst the soft light subtly illuminates the marram grass and the sand.

What appeals to me about this place is its simplicity. No striking structures or spectacular conditions are needed. The power lies precisely in the space, the open horizon and the gradual transition between dune, beach and sea. These are the elements that make the Dutch coast so recognisable.

Thanks to the calm colours and the natural layering of the landscape, this photograph exudes a sense of relaxation. The image brings a touch of the North Sea coast’s openness indoors and therefore fits beautifully in a home, office or reception area where tranquillity and space are key.
