View from the beach of the first row of dunes. This is also called the sea bar.
The photo was taken on a quiet winter day in February, near Callantsoog. The dune area there is called the Zwanenwater.
The marram grass on the dunes is not as bright green as it is in summer, and the wind has blown it and formed vortices. Because of this, and the shape of the dunes themselves, the vegetation looks like the fur of an animal.
In the foreground, new dunes are developing.
The absence of people and human activity creates a different image of beach and dunes, that of nature and protection.
The combination of bare sandy places, the vegetation and the shape of the tops and valleys, invites association and fantasy.
