The BMW 700 is a small family car that was built as a coupé, 4-seater sedan and as a 2+2-seater convertible from 1959-1965. It was the first BMW with a self-supporting body and had a total weight of only 640-690 kg depending on the model. The engines placed in the rear had an output of 22-29 kW (30-40 HP). The fan-cooled two-cylinder boxer engines with light alloy crankcases were originally derived from the motorcycle.
The average selling price at that time was around DM 5,000, the convertible cost DM 6,950.
