Autumn dance of leaves and dust by But First Framing

A long scarf billows across the picture, amongst large autumn leaves and broad swathes of colour. Red, orange and ochre yellow blend with soft pink, cream and deep purple. Dark folds lend the fabric weight, whilst the lighter sections appear to be blowing in the wind. Long fringes hang in the bottom left-hand corner, and in the top left-hand corner a small part of a face is visible, almost hidden amongst the colours.

Everything in this work seems to be in motion. The curved lines of the scarf blend into the shapes of the leaves. Delicate leaf veins and loose, dark lines introduce variety amongst the large areas of colour. The visible brushstrokes lend the whole piece a warm, painterly quality.

The image evokes the feeling of a crisp autumn day when the wind plays with your scarf. The rich colours are reminiscent of falling leaves, whilst the billowing fabric has a protective and cosy quality. In this way, the energy of the outdoors and the warmth of a soft scarf come together.

What is particularly striking is how clothing and nature almost merge into one another. The leaves follow the same movement as the fabric, allowing your gaze to travel effortlessly across the image. Amidst the bold red and purple areas, the pale pink and cream-coloured sections offer a sense of calm. The result is an exuberant autumnal scene with a soft, warm atmosphere.
