The Junkers Ju-52/3m is an aircraft which was built by the German company Junkers. The aircraft is also known by the nickname "Auntie Ju".
The aircraft now called Junkers Ju-52 is the three-engine Junkers Ju 52/3m, which was developed from the single-engine Ju-52/1m. Like earlier Junkers aircraft, the Junkers Ju-52/3m has a metal frame covered with corrugated sheet metal.
The aircraft was developed as a commercial aircraft which could easily be converted into a bomber. This was commissioned by the Reichswehr, which was working in secret at the time to build up a German air force. The aircraft made its maiden flight in March 1932.
The type served as a passenger and transport aircraft for several airlines at home and abroad. The Junkers Ju 52/3m was known as a reliable and comfortable aircraft, but soon got big competition from the Douglas DC-2 and DC-3.
