The Amsterdamse Poort in Haarlem is a place that has always been special to me. I lived nearby for a while and often walked past it, so I got to know the structure in all seasons and at different times of day. I took this photo during an evening walk, when the last glow of daylight gave the old stones a warm colour.
The gate, built in the 14th century, is Haarlem's only remaining city gate. With its imposing towers, red brick and reflection in the water, it exudes both power and elegance. For me, this sculpture symbolizes not only a piece of history, but also a personal memory of the city that was my home for a time.
I deliberately sought a point of view where the bridge, the towers and the reflection in the water come together. This creates a composition that exudes calm and balance, but at the same time emphasizes the grandeur of the gateway.
In post-processing, I subtly enhanced the colors and details to preserve the atmosphere of the moment. The result is a powerful and atmospheric cityscape - an ode to Haarlem and to a monument that has stood the test of time for centuries.
