The St Antoniuswaag in Amsterdam, Isaac Ouwater, ca. 1780 - ca. 1790 View of the St Antoniuswaag on what is now Nieuwmarkt in Amsterdam. In front of the Waag a stall selling antiques or household goods, including paintings. On the left, the clothing shop of Zeemans and Burger.
The subject of the painting, the old, 15th-century Waag, is largely in shadow. In the foreground, Ouwater also applies strong contrasts of light: the table of curiosities catches the sun while the foreground is dark. In this painting and in its counterpart with the New Church, white gowns, animals and lampposts light up, enlivening the scene.
