This panoramic photo shows a so-called pot house.
Many Amsterdam old houses have such a pot house. In the Middle Ages it was an enclosure for the 'cistern', later in the 17/18th century they were used as an extension to the (usually) kitchen that was often located in the basement of the house.
You still see them a lot on Amsterdam canal houses.
