The atmospheric town of Alvor is a small fishing village in the Algarve, located between Lagos and Portimão. Being located on a large lagoon connected to the sea, Alvor has a rich history in fishing, which is still an important industry. Nevertheless, these days the fishing boats have to share the waterfront with pleasure boats and sports enthusiasts who use the bay for water sports such as kite- and windsurfing.
This cosy village has many excellent restaurants, so I love coming here with my girlfriend for walks and eating out. On the south side of the bay, there is a nice walking trail on a wooden platform that takes you through the dunes.
As you can see from the picture, you will find a lot of traditional architecture in Alvor, which adds a lot of atmosphere. If you have been to Alvor, this picture is a nice souvenir to hang on your wall!
