Alfa Romeo Morgana GT MM
Is it fiction or do you see something that is not there, the 1951 Alfa Romeo Morgana GT. The Schicht was what this GT was called at the time. Some claim you could only hear it and not see it, that's how fast this Morgana was.
Alfa Romeo's factory team made this prototype for the 1951 Mille Miglia. The newly developed racing car had a 4.1-litre V12 engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi (Ferrari), producing 220 hp at 6000 rpm with three twin Weber-40DCF carburettors. The coupé was designed by Ghia and the car was driven by Luigi Serafine and an unknown co-driver.
What eventually happened to this Alfa Romeo Morgana GT MM is unclear. After 10 hours and 31 minutes of racing, the car disappeared. With over two and a half hours to go, nothing more has been heard of it. The co-driver and Serafine were never heard from again either. A few kilometres before Piacenza, part of the exhaust system was found on the verge, nothing more.
The remarkably sharp colour photo was taken at an Alfa Romeo service station when the gentlemen were making a sanitary stop at a garage just outside Parma. In the past 73 years, the car and its riders have never been heard from again. One might wonder if this really happened. It could also be a razor-sharp dream.
