Early on I was at the Oisterwijkse Vennen to capture the budding nature. My intention was mainly to capture the sky. However, when I arrived, it was clear so the first photos'of the sunrise did not bring me what I wanted. At the end of my walk, I came to the most photographed island of the Oisterwijkse Vennen. I saw that clouds were approaching, there was still a hint of fog and that the sun was rising in the sky. I decided that the focus should not be on the island but on the drifting sky. I focused on the islet and made a different composition: the approaching sky had to rise exactly above the islet and the reflection still had to be visible in the water. To keep the picture calm, I positioned the islet in the middle but 1/3 from the horizon. For me, this composition provides a nice balance between busy and calm, dark and light colours.
