A photo of two African cranes immediately catches the eye. These elegant birds have a distinctive look, with their long necks, golden crown and black plumage. Their plumage is beautifully coloured, with shades of grey, white and black. They live in open grasslands and swamps in Africa, where they feed on seeds, insects and small animals.
However, this picture was not taken in the wild, but in a zoo. Professional photographer Gwen Chatouani took this picture through a wire mesh. She used a trick to make the photo more interesting: she photographed the same crane twice and merged the images in Photoshop. This makes it look like there are two cranes, looking at each other or perhaps even in discussion. The photographer could not choose which image she liked better, so decided to use both in one image. The result is an unusual and artistic photograph of a graceful bird. Which attracts attention in several areas and captures the imagination.
The crane symbolises luck, fidelity and long life in many cultures. Some species of cranes include the grey crane, red crown crane, sandhill crane and sarus crane.
This African species takes the crown!
