About "Abstract mysterious shapes with colourful dots"

by Lisette Rijkers

About the artwork

This artwork is unusual, abstract, colourful and definitely mysterious. The abstract shapes and patterns do not immediately betray what you are looking at, but they look like leaves or a flower!
The artwork is composed of several different shapes placed one after the other. Each shape is made up of a multitude of dots in a variety of colours. It is a busy pattern, but the colours repeat in different places in the artwork and they are mostly natural shades of orange-red and green-yellow. The dark black background nicely highlights the abstract figure. Furthermore, the shadows and lights stand out in this artwork. It is as if the abstract shape is illuminated by the sun in a few spots that are nicely highlighted as a result.
This special and mysterious artwork is digitally formed. However, the base is an ordinary photograph made from a trio of metal objects. These three metal objects are gold, silver and rose gold. By using metal, the beautiful light and shadow patterns were created and the different colours in the dots were created by using the three metal colours.
This dots artwork is reminiscent of pointillism, a painting technique from the late nineteenth century. In pointillism, dots are painted that are not mixed with each other and the aim is to accentuate light in this way.
With this artwork, you bring a modern version of pointillism into your home!
