About the artwork

This artwork is abstract, imaginative, intriguing, magical and combines black and white with colour.
When we look at art, we are often looking for recognisable things. Things that are realistic and might give us something to hold on to. But on the other hand, there is abstract art. Art that is allowed to be different, art that deviates from the rules, art that continues to fascinate and sets your imagination to work.
The latter fascinates me and for me is a great basis for making art. Art that makes you wonder what you are looking at, what it is.
This work of art has as its basis two photographs. Two photos I took with my camera using multiple exposure. These photos were taken of two ordinary utensils. By taking photos of these and merging them, I created a beautiful graphic diamond pattern with wavy lines. I digitally deformed this black-and-white photo. During this creative process, shapes resembling fish emerged. But they are no ordinary fish, missing a head and a tail in this artwork. But they do have a body and fins. And they have scales with a graphic diamond pattern. And are they intertwined together or are they swimming very close together?
This fish creation called for a nice background. I painted that myself in the shade of deep blue.
All this together forms a special contrast between the black-and-white fish figures and the coloured background of deep blue ocean water.
