This image is originally a photograph of textiles. Using various digital processing techniques, this photograph has been used to create an abstract yet accessible image that is perfect for inclusion in a warm and stylish interior.
Identity is a theme that often recurs in my work as a photographer. However, this image revolves around its counterpart: anonymity. Because of my love for interiors, I know how important (and fun!) it is to reflect your own identity in your living style. The technique gives the image a kind of noise-like distortion, allowing sharp lines and details to blend in. This puts the focus on the mood, colour and style of the work rather than a specific something or someone.
By choosing abstract subjects that are recognisable in colour and feeling, this work evokes a different emotion and memory in each person. So it is an image with room for unique interpretation. I searched for the balance between anonymity and recognition. With the aim that the viewer himself can give meaning to the work, to be able to frame a certain atmosphere, as it were, and thus connect their own identity to the work.
For me personally, this work gives the feeling of summer and warmth, a landscape could be recognised in it hence the title ''Over Terracotta Mountains''. In my opinion, it would therefore look great in a warm interior.
