Canada is a super-modern country, but you don't have to look far to come across abandoned buildings. For example, this is the abandoned Hotel America, along the busy highway from Calgary to the US. It's the first thing you see when you drive into the town of Fort McLeod.
Fort McLeod, by the way, is incredibly photogenic. A cowboy town that makes you feel like you're in a western movie. A lot of westerns were shot there, too.
The biggest building in this town is Hotel America, which unfortunately is no longer in use. It actually exudes a lot of melancholy, but also nostalgia.
Especially at dusk. When I was here in April 2022, the prairie was bathed in a silver evening light. It gave great light on the grass and on the building. And especially as a backlight! I had to be quick to photograph, because this silver glow doesn't last long on this building.
