A winter landscape in the morning sun by Geert Van Baelen

This painting shows a beautiful winter landscape on a bright, sunny morning. The world is covered in a soft layer of frost that makes the grass and trees glisten like crystal. The low winter sun breaks through the high clouds and casts a warm, golden glow over the vast field. In the foreground, a characteristic, slightly crooked tree stands, its branches shining with a thin row layer against the blue sky. In the distance, a flock of birds migrates over the horizon, a subtle reminder of the life that remains present even in winter.

This work is based on my own photograph taken during an early winter morning. The combination of the icy landscape, soft sunlight and serene calm provided the perfect inspiration to capture this scene in painting form. Using the photo as a starting point, I was able to accurately translate the atmosphere of that moment - the stillness, the cold, the shimmering light - into a painting with more depth, colour and feeling.

The result is a winter scene that is both realistic and atmospheric: an ode to the fine details of nature in the cold months. Perfect for lovers of winter landscapes, natural landscape paintings, frost and frost, winter sun, and art inspired by photography.
