This work does not depict a clearly defined tree – and yet one senses its presence immediately. Amidst countless warm patches of colour in red, terracotta and soft shades of pink, a delicate path of light opens up. Like a fleeting moment in which the sun breaks through dense maple foliage.

The individual, softly rendered shapes of colour are reminiscent of leaves that overlap, dance and blend into one another. In between, cooler, almost sky-blue hues flash – like air, like depth, like a breath amidst all the warmth. The longer one looks, the more the eye begins to discover structures that reveal themselves only slowly.

The inspiration for this work lies in one of those quiet autumn moments: when you stand beneath a maple tree, look up and see the light falling through the leaves in a thousand tiny fragments. No clear beginning, no end – just this feeling of both security and vastness. The atmosphere is warm, enveloping and slightly dreamy. The painting carries a calm energy reminiscent of late afternoons, when the light softens and the world pauses for a moment. The work was created using an intuitive, layered painting technique. By applying many small, organic patches of colour, a vibrant surface emerges which appears almost abstract up close and, from a distance, blends into an atmospheric whole.
