These three macaque monkeys seemingly pose for the camera during the low-hanging evening sun. Monkeys naturally have many similarities to humans and this photo magnifies that. The small, young macaque in the middle steals the show with its awkward and very comical 'say cheese' facial expression. The monkey on the left seems to find it all very exciting, while the one on the right strikes an elegant pose.
In the photo, it almost seems as if all the poses of the monkeys were pre-arranged so that a family portrait could be made. Nothing could be further from the truth, as this photo of three macaque monkeys was taken at the Hindu temple complex called Pura Luhur, located on the Indonesian island of Bali. This temple complex is home to hundreds of macaques that are incredibly cheeky and do as they please. They even try to steal stuff from tourists so they can then trade it for tasty peanuts. The photo brings a smile to my face time and again, because of the funny and comical human postures and facial expressions of the monkeys.
