A love of dachshunds in a flowing line

by Patrick Wittling

A dachshund, stripped back to the essentials: flowing black lines form its characteristic body, long muzzle and unmistakable drooping ears. The light-coloured background gives the drawing plenty of space and draws the eye to the sweeping contours. The result is a portrait of a dog that, with just a few details, brings to life the personality and unique charm of this breed.

This motif is part of a series depicting dachshunds in various poses. Sometimes alert, sometimes relaxed, sometimes in motion – each illustration captures a familiar expression from everyday life with dogs. The loops and intersections of the lines are particularly appealing: they outline ears, paws and body shapes, lending a playful rhythm to the minimalist design.

This digitally created illustration draws on the aesthetic of single-line drawing. Its clean design combines a sense of lightness with a loving portrayal of the animal. It may evoke memories of a faithful companion or simply reflect the joy of dogs and expressive forms.

Black on white lends the work a calm, timeless presence. In an interior, it harmonises with natural materials, light colours and clean-lined furniture. Whether as a standalone focal point or alongside other motifs from the series, the dachshund adds a friendly touch full of warmth and character.
