This photo almost literally plunges you into Breda's Spanjaardsgat. The low viewpoint over the water makes you sail towards the city's iconic landmarks. The tower of the Grote Kerk pokes impressively into the blue sky. And the indispensable white building that once housed the post office provides a powerful contrast. That the Spanjaardsgat also provides recreation these days is evident by the boats moored at the jetty waiting for another beautiful day on the water. On the left, the imposing trees on the grounds of Breda Castle, which has long been home to the KMA.
To emphasise the historical character of the scene, I have muted the colours a little in this photo. This gives the photo more character for a proud place on the wall.
