A Northrop F-5E Tiger II of the Swiss Air Force with a beautifully decorated tailplane is about to depart from RAF Fairford.
The Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighter is a light fighter-bomber. The aircraft was designed and built by the company Northrop.
The aircraft was not only successful in its home country but also outside the US it was an export success. It was sold under the names F5A/B Freedom Fighter, F-5E/F Tiger II and RF-5E Tigereye and has served in many air forces around the world over the years. Even today, it is still in use by a few air forces.
I took this photo on July 11, 2016 during departure day at RAF Fairford. The aircraft in the photo has a decorated tailplane due to the 75th anniversary of Staffel 19.
