The digital artwork Champagne Heads is an intriguing still life that subtly brings together heritage, tradition and personal memories. At its centre is a simply designed plastic display case, in which a collection of champagne caps is displayed. Each cap, from a champagne house in the Dormans area of France, carries its own story and symbolises the region's rich champagne culture.
The caps are arranged in neat rows, yet show small imperfections - a slight misalignment, a subtle shadow - giving the whole a vibrant and authentic character. Their metal surfaces vary in colour and patina: shiny gold, matt silver, coppery red and sometimes with a hint of oxidation. Logos, family crests and initials adorn the caps, each with ornate letters or simple typography, which together form a visual collage of craft and prestige.
The light in the artwork is soft and warm, like a late afternoon sun falling in through a window. It casts delicate reflections on the glass of the cabinet and accentuates the metallic sheen of the caps. The background is kept neutral so that all the attention goes to the caps and their stories.
Champagne caps is not only a still life, but also a tribute to the local tradition of champagne production, and a symbolic representation of festive moments, connection and nostalgia. It invites the viewer to dwell on small objects that can carry big memories.
